New Omega Seamaster or Pre-Owned Rolex Datejust?

First time buying a higher end piece (budget of around $3800).

Filtered my selection to an Omega Seamaster Ceramic, non-wave (discontinued a few years ago) or a Rolex Datejust. My local AD has a new Seamaster 212.30.41.20.03.001 in stock and with discount is selling it around $3800.

However, I also like 36mm Rolex Datejusts such as the 16233 and 16234 which can be found in that ranged preowned on Crown and Caliber and with other sellers (I have 6.5 in. wrist).

I know these are very different watches, but should I go new Omega Seamaster or a preowned Rolex Datejust?

I generally won't buy Omega new as where I'm from, Omegas take a huge hit of depreciation as soon as you walk out of the AD. In addition, the Rolex will hold its value much better in the long run.

Money aside, you have to ask yourself if you would like the attention that you get from wearing both brands. If you work in a serious, profit driven organisation, I would say the Rolex. If not, go with the Omega.

Both good options. The Seamaster will be a better daily as it has newer technology for todays world and is more of a tool watch. If you dress up more often then not, the DJ would serve you well. I would stay away from the TT DJ as I don't think it is as versatile as the non TT DJ.

I disagree with the "if you would like the attention" comment as the DJ pretty much flies under the radar as I don't think wearing an older DJ is perceived as flexing.

It's all but impossible to say which one would be better for you because nothing is known about what you like in a watch, what your collection looks like and your lifestyle.

I'm attracted by the sporty casual style of the Omega. For me the Datejust is too dressy.

I personally prefer the Seamaster over the Datejust especially as it comes with a discount.
It is of course down to you & what you feel it more suitable to your daily life.

I would go with the ROLEX as it will fit you better. Go stainless steel....

We all agree that you are talking about apples and oranges. There are some good advices here. I, personally, do not like to wear shiny objects to work.
I have the same size wrist as yours and my Seamaster Pro wears comfortably.
For daily wearer I would go with Omega. If you are looking for a dressy watch, go with Rolex.

I'd go Rolex DJ, but all stainless and with a plain bezel.

There is that old maxim, "What's in a name?"- In this instance it goes both ways.

One is a friggen SEAMASTER, and the other a Datejust.

But, one is an Omega, and the other a Rolex. Every standard issue chucklebuck knows what a Rolex is, Omega not so much.

Just kidding, but there is a grain of truth to this.

As posted above, I would seek out a used Omega vs. a new if you really loved the Seamaster.
