I wasn't sure where to post this, so I brought it to the Public Forum. I came across this new company this morning named Culet Automatiq. Their first watch which seems to be in production is called the 'Ghost.' It really reminds of the Hublot Big Bang, but I wanted to hear what everyone else thought. IT has 316 L Surgery grade stainless steel case, a skeleton-type dial, and has an automatic movement, although, I don't see any information on the specific movement. Based on some research it looks like it will retail at $1,990. Here is the website: Culet Automatiq and a picture is below. What do you guys think?

either a really big watch or guy has a really skinny wrist.....

looks too big for the wrist model. not the most flattering choice of pics for marketing. No mention of dial size or movement. Also, not sure if "it also features a new strap style unique to the Ghost, where changing from strap to strap is made easy with the Culét Automatiq watch tool provided." means that your strap options are limited to what they produce.

I really like the BP and JLC Skeletons on there :p

Did some digging. Regarding their movement: "it is a brand new 2016 33jewel Swiss movement, we are the only timepiece in the market with it"

Honestly? For a skeleton I don't think it's all that bad. There are some elements I like, and some that I really don't. Overall, it doesn't really tickle my softies, but I'm not repulsed by it either.

Now, the lack of information on their website bothers me. It suggests they didn't quite do enough "learning", or that they simply aren't trying to cater to the enthusiast. No case size? No info on the movement? C'mon...that tells me you're still approaching this from a "jewelry" come-from. And for $2K, I want a watch that's a watch....not something that's trading on some success had in the diamond business.

Them's my thoughts in a nutshell. It ain't bad, but it ain't gonna compel me to send in my money.

Culet sounds too close for comfort to an Italian word ("culetto") for "little butt"... the "Automatiq" spelling instead of "automatic" or "automatique" (French) tremendously grinds my gears. It would be a giant pass for me just for this, never mind the Hublot / AP RO mix n mash that this watch seems to go for & the $2k price tag. It is just as far away as possible from my cup of tea. But to each his own.

I have no good thoughts about this.

First watch, from a startup, and it's a fancy skeleton? And 2K? That price grabs a Nomos hand-wound. Asking a lot to sink this much into a company's first product.

Agreed that the web site is uninformative, a MAJOR strike. Oh boy, 316L. Oooh, *surgical*. The presentation turns that into marketing spew. Then, little things. The quote, "simplicity is the ultimate sophisication." Uhhhh...let's try this again. This is NOT a simple watch. Poorly chosen marketing images...the one has been mentioned, and another is that the watch is on backwards in the first shot...the guy with arms in front of his face. The crown is arm-side...not hand-side. Elegant? It's a bulky watch, big ol' tank of a bezel with screws in it, and an overall very industrial vibe to it.

Personally, this one's an epic fail in my book.

I'm confused by the whole thing. It's not a bad looking watch overall but.....

No Specifications!!!??? What's it made out of (and where)? What size is it? What movement is used? These are all BASICS. Plus a brand new brand trying to jump into the 2k pool.....really?

Me thinks they think they are "players" or catering to the like. They certainly aren't catering to WIS's.

Edit....From their website:

"Culét Automatiq was formed from the minds behind the luxury diamond jewellery specialists known as Culét Jewellery. After years of hard work perfecting their craft, and sharing a genuine passion for high quality time pieces, the Culet team set out on a new venture, to create a high quality, high performing, luxury, swiss-made time pieces. Lead by designer Dane Rumble, they set out on a 2 year research adventure, learning everything about movement precision, case manufacturing, the different materials and components that make up a quality time piece. With this knowledge, they put together a unique avant-garde design, that is both respective of the classics, but also conveys elements of modern design "

AKA, we are huge DB's hoping to sell to major DB's with money.

they actually dodge the question from WIS about movements if you check their instagram. they just say it's a new movement that only they have access to. WTF?

Despite the comments I agree above, I will still give them a chance and try to be neutral. Let's see the full specs. It looks like a solid piece though. Cheers

Representative of the classics and conveying elements of modern design?

Hope that fence isn't jabbing too hard into the culette.

Some possible background for the brand:

The domain was registered to a Dane Rumble of Sydney, Australia.

His Instagram seems to confirm he's behind the brand and gives a small bio: https://www.instagram.com/danerumble/

Dane Rumble Luxury watch and jewellery Designer / owner of Culet jewellery Australia / Songwriter / Photographer / Mensfashion enthusiast / dane@culet.com.au culet.com.au
And the brand's bio from that website:

Culét Jewellery started from humble beginnings, with Jewellery maker and designer Scott Nicols, learning and perfecting his craft in a jewellery workshop in Auckland city. Over the early years he developed a real talent for design, and later became one of NZ's leading jewellery designers, and would often design for some of leading diamond jewellery houses throughout NZ and Australia. In 2008 he teamed up with designer Dane Rumble, and they decided to officially launch the Culét Brand. After a successful few years, developing a name for their distinct fashion Jewellery, they decided to focus their attention on their true passion ... high end custom-made diamond jewellery.
The call that it looks like a Hublot Big Bang seems right, that it was the inspiration, given there is a picture of one near the pictures of these watches in his Instagram:

He put Songwriter in his bio blurb, and I guess that was his start: Dane Rumble opens jewellery store | Stuff.co.nz
One of New Zealand's top rockers and his former drummer have turned their attention to a different kind of platinum rock.

Dane Rumble has teamed up with Scotty Nicols, now lead vocalist of Late Nyte Hype, to open Culet, a high-end jewellery store in Takapuna.
Couldn't find much of anything on him posting about the watch besides what ended up on the site
