New Years in Times Square official time?

I watched the ball drop in Times Square (on TV) and wondered what the time standard was, because there was a 15 second differential between the on screen clock and time.gov. Did anyone else notice that?

15 second delay in the broadcast? In case someone wanted to moon the camera.

I thought of that, but wouldn't there have been a notice on screen? Maybe I'm being a WIS, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who checked for accuracy.

There are lots of delays in broadcast TV. and not just the bad word delay. I noticed that digital cable in my area runs about 5 seconds behind analogue cable from the same company to the same house. Now that I have satellite, I think it is even more delayed than the cable. I know a guy who disconnects from the digital box while watching football because he can't stand that everyone else knows how the play ends before he does!

Glad it wasnt just me! I had just set the watch I was wearing earlier in the day to one of my atomic watches, and I noticed the same thing.

Typical, no one but us WIS really know what time it is!
