    The non-divers diver

It has been years (OK, actually decades) since I’ve done any diving, and when I did, I never owned a dive watch. Dive watches are obviously extremely popular, but millions of people wearing them never use them for the original purpose. So if you are not setting your bezel to track dive time, when do you set it?

I have one type of situation where I’ll set it … and my wife doesn’t love me for it. It’s those situations where I begrudgingly go someplace with her I’d rather not be – furniture stores, the church social etc. – and while she could stay there for hours, I’m running out of oxygen in 45-60 minutes. Bezel set just before the plunge. Still married, although I realize this could be topic 4 or 5 (oh, there are others!) of a marriage counseling session.

What do you use your diver to measure if not dive time?

I use mine when I’m grilling on the BBQ. Even then, it’s quite rare. I just never remember to use my watch as I normally use a countdown timer or approximate time only.

Funny, the timing bezel is something I have set many, many times but never actually consult. I realize I set it hours later and then return it to zero. It's for show...and by show I mean for me alone since no one else cares even a tiny, itty-bitty bit.

This week I've used it to: time the laundry, time a parking meter, and for cooking time too. I'll almost always use it for something if I'm wearing a watch with a rotating bezel.

I use mine several times a day for example cooking, what time I started a particular task, when parking my car, if I have an appointment at a certain time I’ll set it as a reminder, when I last bottle fed my son I can set it to point at the marker so I know 3 hours from then he is due another 3oz feed. Honestly I use my bezel very frequently

Hmmm...dive watch bezel as a timer. Novel thought. And at the church social, I guess it's better than asking Siri or Google to set an alarm for 45 minutes

I set it, forget I've set it and then wonder why the damn thing is aligned incorrectly and re-set it to 12 until the next time!

Cooking mostly. Really comes in handy for parking. Those meter people in those little cars are vigilant.
