Not All Counterfeit Watches Are "Made" in China

Here is a very interesting news article I found about a PA man who was arrested for making and selling counterfeit Rollies. He would order all of the parts separately and assemble the watches in his basement...then sell the watches to whoelsalers in NYC to be sold on Canal Street.

Obviously the title of the thread is a bit of a joke. I just found this oddly fascinating that he was probably a pretty decent watchmaker who could have used his talents legitimately...yet I'm sure he was making much more scratch being a criminal.

At the time of their raid they found 22,000 fake Rollies in his basement. He has gotten prison time, and has been ordered to pay Rolex 2.2 million dollars.

Very interesting story, I'm really glad you shared this with us. Poor guy, it sounds like he was using actual Rolex parts and just assembling himself, I might have got that wrong, but that's what I think I read. And he's got to pay 2.2 mil to Rolex... ouch! Now that's punishment.

I was shocked [and maybe a little impressed] to hear he was buildng these himself..granted it was still way illegal...but 22,000 watches...and "hundreds of thousands of watch parts"...thats something special to be able to do this for what seems to be a very long time....

I know they say crime doesnt pay...but he must have been making BANK!

Just think if he would take that business spirit and do something legal.

and thats all I was thinking when I first read it...he has a marketable skill...sheesh if he came on here for 15 minutes he could find 2 dozen guys with some capital wanting to start an independent watch co. and he could have been a designer/watchmaker partner....But I imagine the 'quick buck' of fakery won over the patience of doing it the right way...

With great power comes great responsibility...and ya blew it...and now you're in a cell and owe 3 million to Rolex...Hows that workin out for ya? Hope it was a good ride.
    Cheers!

I have not read that article, but if he bought the parts from Rolex - did they not suspect something fishy was going on already when he started?
" Good Morning, Mr Rolex, I would like to buy 5000 bezels, 5000 dials, 5000 cases, and I pay cash. Is it OK if you send everything by FedEx, as I have a large order to fulfill, Mr Rolex?"

    haha! 'Well SURE we can!'

actually it was Rolex who finally 'caught' the guy...he was arrested in 07 for bringing watch parts into the country but it never went anywhere...and apparently Rolex put their own people on it...and presented their info to the authorities...

so...you know.....they're watching you!!....sweet dreams everyone Muh wuh huh HAHAHA!
