Ochs und Junior - similar designs

After my latest acquisition I've been very seriously bitten by the calendar bug. Naturally, I've been doing lots of digging and that's how I "re"discovered the microbrand Ochs und Junior - and have subsequently seriously fallen for their Perpetual Calendar. In terms of pricing, it's beyond my reach but that hasn't stopped me from scouring for similar designs and aesthetics. Do you watch afficionados have any recommendations in terms of timepieces that match this one's minimalistic yet highly original look?

Last time I posted one of these threads asking for directions, I ended up picking one of the most supported suggestions so here's hoping this thread could have the same effect :)

Here is the original design from 1992 by Alexander Burhans, now available in a new release. Guess what O&J used for `inspiration` ...

    Very affordable!

Thanks for the info TW - I really wasn't aware of the history behind the concept, the original AB Orbit, or Burhans' latest Kickstarter campaigns. Unfortunately (or perhaps not really?), I seem to have missed out on supporting the project while that was still possible - but then again, it doesn't look as though the funding campaign has had too much success, especially judging by the latest comments of his 60k EUR backers. Which is a tad sad - I would most definitely go for the black dial version.

And yep, O&J pretty much stealing the idea and concept without giving credit (as far as I'm aware) is not particularly cool.

Using holes as indicators is not new:

It's unfair to say O&J stealing ideas as it is not about punching holes on the dial, but they use a clever way to solve the long/short months problem.

Very neat, thanks for sharing. First time I have seen this visual!

I used `inspiration` on purpose, as it is very difficult to determine a true first. But i think Burhans is the first to use it in this way for a calendar function, happy to be corrected with better info. It is also a much cheaper alternative to the very nice ! O&J (i also really like), as per the OP request. So no bad intensions here.

Regatta timers and square apertures dont qualify ofcourse, but thanks anyway for the imput.

Unless I am mistaken, the regular date window should also essentially qualify as "using hole as indicator". That, however, was not the purpose of the thread; using minimalist design (with holes) for a full calendar was.

I agree, my conclusion was indeed rather ill-worded - especially when applied to O&J's beautiful design and innovation.

Back to the original subject - in case anyone else has leads on similar designs, please do share! :)

So... does this silence suggest that there are no other ideas with regards to similar designs? I was really hoping there'd be further alternatives.
