Omega Aqua Terra vs. Tag Carrera vs Maurice Lacroix Pontos

    Hi all,

I'm about to make my first foray into purchasing a real watch. Previously, I've had a bunch of different Fossils and it is time to abandon that line of thinking. I've been doing a lot of research and have narrowed it down to three watches, all pretty similar in style, all automatics.

But that's kind of where I've hit a wall: I can't seem to narrow it down any further. Any opinions between these? Any other watches that I may have over looked that have a similar styling? Don't really want to go much about $3K.

It'll be my every day, every situation watch. From casual to tuxedos. It needs to be able to take it without needing to be babied. I'm 25 and want it to last a while.

I'm considering either the silver or black face (that's another decision), all with the metal straps. I've linked to images of just the silver here for simplicity.

    Here are the watches:

    Tag Heuer Carrera:

    Maurice Lacroix Pontos Automatique Gents:

    Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra:

I appreciate any comments you may have. Much thanks!

Of those three, I'd get the Omega. The ML would be second and the TAG would be a distant third.

If price is no consideration, IMO you'd be insane to pick the Tag or ML. Both (to my knowledge) simply use unmodified (though highly specified) ETA 2824 movements -- nothing wrong with that, but compared to a highly modified ETA 2892 movement with a coaxial escapement and a free sprung balance, no competition whatsoever.

Aesthetically I find them all rather attractive. So yeah, the Omega with no hesitation whatsoever. ML I think has some extremely unique pieces, but this Pontos isn't one of them. If you are keen on the Tag, spend the extra $400 (MSRP) and get the Carrera twin time.

Personally, I'd go for the Carrera

The Pontos looks too aggressive for a dress watch, and the Aqua Terra looks very busy.

I like the looks of the ML the best.

Id go Omega, even though I like the design of the Tag a bit more. I dont like the ML.

Personally I think you have narrowed it down to three very nice pieces. As your first watch, and one you say you wish to wear daily, I suggest you pick the one that has already spoken to you.

That aside, little considerations to think about...size and weight, comfort on your wrist, proximity to water.....

If I were you, I'd spend a couple hundred more and buy a used Rolex Explorer I.

But of those choices, I'd get the Aqua Terra. Don't like the looks of the ML, and I'm not a fan of Tag in general.

Can't comment on the other two, but having owned that very AT, I can promise you won't be disappointed with it. It has the superior movement and don't forget that exhibition case back
