You really can't go wrong with either watch, they are unbelievable value especially considering both are solid automatics. I personally went for the Mini as I thought it has a more "current" look to it.

The Mini. The Monster is just too ugly to wear. Although I'd take an SKX007 over both.

How did it get so late so soon?

Monster by far for me. More thought out/refined watch. Great example of Japanese baroque design. Better machined surfaces. Also I can't stand the "5" on Seiko 5 watches. Cheapens the look. Even worse when "Sports" is included. Reminds me of early 90's Chevy Caveliers.

Don't forget he monster is a real ISO rated dive watch, which means much more than just increased water resistance. The 5 is a fine watch, while the Monster will go down in Seiko dive watch history.

Monster in my opinion. For some reason or another, this watch just grows on you... So much so that mine is coming in the mail as we speak (and should be here momentarily!).

Honestly, I thought the monster was awful for the longest time. But there is something really intoxicating about it.

Id go for the monster. For some reason, I don't like the '5' on the dial.

I'll take the Monster (I have five times already). It's a modern classic. The Mini? Can't stand the red bezel numerals. Looks cheap. Sorry.

I'd opt for the monster. I prefer the stem at the 4 instead of 3. The mini's bezel also looks a little too busy for me.
