    OP39 on leather weird?

Is it just me or is the Rolex OP39 on leather look weird because the lugs are too fat?

I’m in love with the watch and looks fantastic on a bracelet, but I love a nice leather strap but the huge lugs make it look weird on a leather. Let me know your thoughts and if you have pictures, that’ll be great! Thanks!

Nope. Had a friend point that out to me one time, even on bracelet, and I cannot un-see it now ... the lug-to-lug is off on that watch, and the tapering of the bracelet magnifies it.

I’m a simple beast so OP = bracelet to me. In fact as far as I’m concerned all Rolex sports watches look best on a bracelet.

I have an older Datejust with slimmer lugs and less gap, so leather looks pretty good on it. However I agree that Rolex watches are primarily designed to be on a bracelet(hence the unfinished sides which is unusual for a +$5000 watch).

Everest has curved straps that fit snug into the case, or you might want to try ordering separate endlinks designed to accomodate leather.

When Rolex does use leather straps(on Day-Date for example) this is their preferred look.

Not at all weird. Esp if the leather complements the dial. But I see why you would ask the question.

Alas yes it just feels wrong visually.

I agree that modern Rolex watches are definitely designed to be worn on bracelet, however I still think they look good with the right leather strap (though agree with a post above that the unfinished sides are slightly off-putting). I have a modern larger datejust that I wear on a leather strap and I actually think it looks really good.

Apart from its being upside down, that Rolex looks fine on the band to me. In general, I prefer metal to leather for a bracelet, there are a few exceptions. My Tissot T-touch expert solar is titanium which I believe lasts a long time. I think they did it to make the watch lighter as it's a big watch and a leather bracelet just would have been odd looking with the Tissot, although they do offer models with leather straps.

My Rado is scratch-resistant ceramic and, after 14 years, I can confirm it lives up to its luxury pedigree. It also uses titanium in its clasp.

IMO it looks best on the bracelet but, I would have no problem wearing one on a leather strap. Now, a NATO strap... That's where I draw the line.
