    Opinions in the $500 - $1000 Range

Looking for suggestions for a first "real" watch in the $500- $1000 range.

Would like something that is auto, observation crystal would be nice. Had been leaning towards a Tissot Seastar 1000, but worry that the size would be too large for an everyday watch. I am an avid boater though so being WR is a major plus.

Overall, I've found Hamiltons & tissots in my price range. But as I live in Vermont I don't have a whole lot of places to go & try on watches...so opinions are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Hi -

If you like a diver, then take a very serious look at Bill Yao and his MMT Blackwater. It's in your price range, even if you modify it - which you can!

There's a bit of a wait to get it, but you'd be very, very hard pressed to get more for the money. He regulates the ETA 2824-2 automatic before it gets sent out, and mine is running very sweet at +3/day for the last two weeks.

He used to offer a modified Seiko which is turning into one of my favorites, and will be bringing out a hommage to the Blancpain 50 fathom diver, as well as a replacement for the Seikos with the crown at the 4 position.

I really, really like mine, and while there *was* a wait, it was worth it.

This is exactly what I'm looking for... Somewhat unusual, not "mainstream" watches... thanks I'll take a look. I wonder how long a wait there is.

Cool, I'll check out Nivrel... I've heard differing opinions of them though...

As I see it I'd be in the range of one of their divers...

I absolutely love my Hamilton Navy (below). I think it fits the "not like everything else" bill with great value for the money. You might also check out Stowa, a great value German company. The WR might not be to your liking unless you spring for the Seatime, but their whole lineup is awesome.

    Good luck. Dave

Try Oris too. They have some good models in the upper range of what you are looking for, but $700+ there are some great Oris models.

Marathon SAR. You'll never run into anybody else wearing one.

Spend an extra $160 on the metal bracelet and you'll have a watch ready for the boating or the boardroom.

I've been looking at the Nivrel Divers, & I really like them. The elegant bezel & the lack of height is what sold me I think. Take a look at this image & you'll see wha tI mean.

No one in the states seems to have the Red Sea with the silver bezel available.

Has anyone ever bought from http://www.kreativ-exclusiv.com

Eduard emailed me after I requested info, & stated that he's sold Nivrels for 10 years...etc..etc I'm slightly suspect, not sure I need to be though. Would feel much more confident if anyone had any experience with him.

    Thanks!
