I would say they are pretty equal, so whichever one is cheaper.

The Mako wears smaller than the Seiko. Both great watches. Try them in person, if possible.

On the other hand . . . I can wear another watch!

I'd go with the Mako. More my style.

I prefer the Seiko. The Seiko diver is a classic look of its own.

Both are excellent watches and everyone needs a Mako, but for the Pepsi flavor I chose the Seiko.

is there anything movement wise or build wise that would set one apart from the other?

Haven't seen or handled any of the Orient Mako's, but I did own and sell an SKX009. Only sale I've regretted after the fact. One of these days I'll pick up another one. That one will stay though.

I am under the impression that the Seiko is more robust and better for rough use. It would be my choice for actual diving, for example. But i can't imagine the difference is major or would be relevant for the kind of things most of us do most of the time. I'd say it boils down to looks. I dont like the orient's crown. That said, it's a prettier dial vs a classic utilitarian dive watch look. Up to you.
Current Rotation: Seiko SARB017, Seiko SARB035, Seiko SKX013, Seiko World Timer (c. 1970).
Box Sitters: 1972 Zodiac Astrographic (Yeah, baby!), Patek Calatrava (I bring that out for special occasions).

I own two Makos, but not with Pepsi bezels (I'm a Coke fan - lol). They wear well with just about anything from business casual to shorts and a t-shirt. I've handled but never owned the Seiko; it has more of that "tool" watch look compared to a Mako and would probably be my choice between the two if I were out doing yard work and such.

Of course, you could just break down and get both...
