(IMHO) Well made, but seriously overpriced.

This could be said about a lot of watches. They have a strong history, and make a very recognizable and unique product. Panerai get some flack for repackaging ETA movements and charging a fortune for them, but they also make their own for certain watches. Buy what you like, I used to own one and was very happy with it.

    Here some history:

I agree, beautiful watch, a craze here to stay but a bit overpriced.

    PS: I still want one

There are people on this very forum who think Panerai made their history out of nothing. And since one of these said members has over 30 Swiss dive watches that I could only dream of, I think there has to be some weight to his opinion...

They do have history, but nothing horologically significant. For me, their most important history was making watches for the Italian military. I don't see that they have added anything significant to the watchmaking world except the unique look to their watches. I have one and am happy with it because of its refreshing simplicity.

    Panerai a fad?

They said they have only 4 case models. 100% Arabic numerals and 100% black dial?

Nope. Great watches although they are not for everyone. If your looking to buy then I say go for it. Here is a great link here with the history of Panerai.

They have blue and white dials too. Nice looking watches, way overpriced. I probably wouldn't buy one even if I had the money - it's a symbol of corporate greed.
I'm content with my watch collection
