Panerai should move production to Italy?

Quick search reveals that they say swiss made on a lot of them. I guess that's the mecca for watches but I think they have enough clout to say made in Italy or something. Being a fan of Italian motorcycles this seems like a good idea to me. Just seems like buying a Ferrari but since Germany makes all the great cars they build it in Germany. Granted I don't know a great deal about the brand but that's my initial impression.

    Anyone else?

They used to be. Ever hear of Richemond Group? That name will explain why an iconic Italian brand doesn't say "made in Italy" on it anymore. Lets hope the same fate doesn't befall Anonimo...

"Made in Italy" might be more meaningful than "Swiss Made". You never know.

He-he. But isn't it stereotypes? I think Pams would even have won if they put Made in Italy on their dials. But it will never happen.

If you know a bit about the Italian quality and QC you would not prefer Made in Italy.

Compare the built quality, design and reliability between a Porsche, MB and Ferrari ot Lamborghini (not the German made ones, but Italian made)

Historically some of the first Panerais were made by Rolex. Some had an Angelus movement inside.

Edit: Anyway, they would still need to have a Swiss Made movement, as there are not enough, if any, qualified movement builders in Italy.

If I saw 'Made in Italy' on the dial, my thoughts probably would probably bring up Fiat.

Exactly. And Fiat owns Ferrari & Alfa R.

Of course, the watches could be assembled in Italy, with an Italian case, bezel, Swiss movement, Austrian strap and God knows where the crystal and the rest of the small bits are made.
And stll be "Made in Italy".

Of course it would! Northern Italy belonged untill (historically) recently to Austria, and you would expect a higher level of engineering from them. After all, they (Austrio-Hungarians) were a very innovative group of people.
They invented the Pilsener beer, Marine Torpedo (significant in Panerai's history), Goulash etc etc

    Enough joking.
Fiat has a factory in Torino.
