Perrelet Big-Date BNIB on ebay...worth the risk?

    Hey guys!

I was wondering if this Big-Date is worth the risk at 1400$ MAX! It's bnib, so probably it's stuck expecting the bidders to start as we approach the deadline, so i set a max of 1400$.

BNIB is a weird description for something that doesn't work when wound and needs a service immediately? It just depends on if you're comfortable with the risk of it not being serviceable to working condition (I'm assuming once you have a watchmaker open up the back it voids the return policy? I don't know enough about it). I don't know what the grey market / used market is for this but it's surprising to me that they wouldn't service it prior to putting it up.

Also it looks like someone posted one here in late sept for 1775 NIB -- I'm assuming it was working. Not sure how much you expect a full service to cost for it, but to me the savings for the risk wouldn't be worth it. https://forums.watchuseek.com/f30/nib...t-2420273.html

Thanks for your reply and for this great find. Ok, i decided to stick with 1125$ and if i don't get outbid, i'll see how i deal with it later. You are right, no more bidding on this one.

Given that it doesn't work, and depending on where you are, a repair could be anywhere from $150 to several hundred dollars (or more if something is very wrong). As long as you're factoring that in and willing to bother with getting it fixed, I don't see a problem bidding on it.

It is BIB or broken in the box. You should factor on $650 for service. More if something needs replacement.

Yep, I agree with John. A chronograph with big date is going to be $500-$600 just for a service (clean, oil, adjust) and that's before fixing anything. Based on what I've seen on the web, I wouldn't bid any higher than you have already (and I think you've been outbid). I'd pass on this one.

For future bids: You can be sure that this is not an easy fix as the seller is clearinghousesales aka upscaletime. If not them, who else would have the resources to fix this broken watch easily. So if they sell it just like it is, it´s most likely not an easy thing to repair...
