    Please help me choose...

    Dear All,

I have finally scrapped together £2k to spend on a new watch, I have narrowed my choices to the following:-

    A used JLC Master Control

    A new Grand Seiko

Any other suggestions would be appreciated, I am looking for a simple elegant watch on a leather strap. Part of the money was a inheritance so I want something that will last.

    Many Thanks.

To me the Seiko is more appealing, qua classic design (ever lasting) the JLC would be a good choice too. Tough question though.

No contest - go for the JLC. That's one hell of an elegant watch!

I like the JLC better than the Seiko...the dial is a little more distinctive, and the less-commonplace premium brand has a lot of appeal, so I'm inclined to think it's a better value overall.

OTOH, the Grand Seiko is probably as good a watch as the JLC and a better value as a new watch. I guess the decision hinges on whether you want a new or a used watch...

No contest! JLC. But if you buy used, can you not get one with more complications?

I would have to go with the JLC. I know this is a ridiculous statement, but I just couldn't bring myself to drop that kind of $$ on a Seiko. It's just an ego thing with me. Some other possibilities for "small" money may include and Oris Artelier or Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra. Both offer a great value. Good luck!
