Power Reserve Indicators on automatic watches-- Yea or Nay

I'm not a fan of power reserve indicators on auto movements. I just don't see the value. I have one and it's typically pegged on full when I'm wearing the watch. It drains in the watchbox, but I don't see that.

I see the value on a hand-wind movement, but not an auto. Plus, I don't like that it kills the symmetry on the dial, in most examples.

    What are your thoughts?

Any other complications that you don't find valuable or necessary? I'm not a big fan of moon phase either, btw.

I don't find them a great deal of use but I love seeing watches with them on.

Not useful if only watch. Useful if you rotate without a winder. You can wind it up between wears or know which one to wear if it's getting low.

I'm not a fan. I find them unnecessary and obtrusive.

I like them; if properly integrated into the design of the watch, they are neither obtrusive nor a distraction.

    Useful when:

    a) the reserve is long. If you have, say, a 40 hour reserve, you recognize it has to be in use or on a winder full-time, or it will run it too quickly.
    b) it's integrated into the overall design of the face.
    c) a condition, perhaps, of the above...that the rest of the features of the watch still work visually.

I like them. Just another example of a complication. How many complications do we really need? I just find it cool, much like a chronograph and moon phase, and like that someone figured out a mechanical means to do it.

They should be on the back and the only one I can recall liking was on a Breitling years ago, a small circle that
    change from Green to Red.

Re: Power Reserve Indicators on automatic watches-- Yea or Nay

    Thanks for the input, gentlemen.

I would be more attracted to one on the back of the movement. But again, my experience has been that they are not valuable on autos. When I take off one of my watches, it's typically a couple weeks until I put that piece on again. I don't have 12 winders, so they all run down when not in use. When I wear them, they show full. I like them if well integrated on a manual wind, but just can't warm up to them on autos.

I do like the way it's integrated into the dial of the JLC pictured above. Thanks for that.
