Preowned vs Grey vs AD in $500 differences

A watch I'm considering can be had:

    (1) Preowned from trusted seller with a little more than a year left on original factory warranty

    (2) Brand new from Joma or similar without factory warranty

    (3) Brand new from AD

The price increases roughly $500 as you climb each rung. Which would you pick?

Will the watch be a long term option?

    Haha, I'd say 50/50?

In my head I'm assuming this is a $5K or so watch when new.

I guess I'd say pre-owned as long as the watch is in roughly the same condition it would be in if I wore it for the same amount of time. Also as long as the used price was fair market value.

Then value wise, I would go the pre-owned route. That way you take most of the hit out of the equation.

Unless of course it is a limited run watch that has the possibility of appreciating in the length of your ownership!

    Always a fun gamble.

Depends on the price of the watch. If it’s a $2000 watch then probably do grey market but would check around at some good ADs that might give you a deal (like forum sponsors). If it’s a Rolex or a watch in that range I would go AD for $500 more always

Same as above. Depends on the watch.

Id go with a trusted seller and put the cash towards the next watch fund, unless you’ve got a relationship with the AD, or if the purchase would help to establish a needed relationship there.

This isn't a question I could personally answer without knowing the MSRP of the watch in question. For a $1500 watch, getting $1k off going with used is a great savings. $1k off an $8k watch isn't all that exciting--particularly if you have to go used to get it.

So, a bit more info would be ideal. What is the MSRP? Is the AD price you are referencing the lowest you can find or are you just going off of MSRP? That info is also important. I would say that you should be able to get 20% off the MSRP of a watch, FYI.

Would need to know the watch. If the discount is >= the price of a complete service from the manufacturer then grey market is tempting.
