    Quick Advice, watch for Guatemala

I don't want to get into religious overtones, but I will be going to Guatemala for a week helping with building projects and other things such as that. I'm in need of a watch that can handle everything! The stress of work, as well as comfort, possibly an alarm/compass/chronograph.

I don't have anything like that in my collection so came to you guys for some help!

Budget? Are we talking Wallmart Casio territory or something more substantial?

$2-400? Nothing too crazy! Good point.

I'm sure the G-Shock guys will be chiming in any minute now. That'd be my first guess considering what you are going to be doing and where you will be.

Something cheap. Remember, houses down there means a lot of corrugated sheet metal cutting and cement blocks. I went there for a week or 2 for around 7 years (also with a church mission). PM me if you want some good advice on places to go!

Casio toward your low end and this for the high end. Less than 4 bills

A word of caution here. Don't wear a new shiny anything on your wrist anywhere south of the continental US. It can be dangerous and it's likely going to look a bit like a gringo showing off his excess. Some people there cannot afford food nor decent shelter and here you are sporting a new watch.

You are doing a great thing, volunteering, helping disadvantaged people, don't spoil the effort. I applaud the decision to help out, act humble and you will receive far more than expected. Keep the watch in the pocket.

All good points! I do have a g-shock that I use to time my runs, but it's filthy! I've been looking at the Suunto, it seems to meet all of my requirements and I can use it for hiking as well.

I still want to get a T-Touch, but not looking to spend that right now!

Great advice here, you are exactly right! I certainly don't want anyone here to get the impression that I am trying to show-off, and most certainly not the innocent people of Guatemala!

I don't feel as if you are saying that's what I'm doing, but you make a great point! It might be better to just leave it at home or back at our compound!
