Re: Ratio of quartz to mechanicals in your collection

Before I found WUS, I owned one mechanical and three quartz wristwatches. I'm now up to 5 mechanical and 13 quartz wristwatches, plus one mechanical and two quartz pocket watches, for a grand total of 6 mechanical and 15 quartz. That puts me at a little over 70% quartz.

Since learning more about them here in the forums I wear my mechanicals most of the time, but I also like the "grab it and go" aspect of a quartz, especially on weekends and holidays. Style and design tend to be higher on my list of priorities than movement (I've grown to like chronographs in particular - 4 of the 6 on my wish list are chronos), but I've definitely given automatics more space in my collection and will probably end up around 50/50 before my collecting is done (as if the collecting is ever really done, right? ).

Like many others here, budget is a big concern to me; home and family come first, and then if there's anything left over it goes toward my addic- I mean, my hobby

I still haven't really picked out a "grail" to aspire to owning one day (the Airboss Mach 6 is probably the closest thing to a grail on my list), but I'm thinking more and more that when I do it will be a mechanical.

    Currently I am 100% quartz

I will admit that I am firmly in the budget arena, and the watches that have grabbed me have so far mostly been quartz, so that is what I have...

I do plan on getting an auto or two sometime though, I just need to find the right watches at the right price.

Not sure what cell phone or provider you use but I can tell you that my Iphone on AT&T is often more than one minute off.

The little watches we have in the forum banner would be a much better way to set your watch.

The time on the banner's watches is determined by your computer's clock. If you are regularly sync'ing your machine with a time server, that should work really well; otherwise, you're subject to the same drifting as any other quartz timepiece.

Re: Ratio of quartz to mechanicals in your collection

What app. I got one that will tell you the difference of your Iphone clock to the atomic clock but it will not sync the iphone clock with the atomic clock.

Mike, thanks for the caveat. I knew that but it's good to mention for those who don't.

I use a G-Shock GW-6900 which is checked against the other atomic clocks in my possession. Sometimes they are just a tiny bit off. Not more than 0.5 seconds. So I just use this one all the time to have a steady reference and because it syncs very reliably. It also has one of the best accuracy results in between syncs of the watches I have.

I use whatever clock is closest! Clock radio, microwave clock or tall case clock. They are within a few of minutes of one another...
