Recommend something like this, but better

I'm considering the Luminox 1837. I like the look, and prefer a sapphire crystal. I've read many opinions, however, about Luminoxes having lousy QC, a worthless warranty, and being style over substance in general.

With that in mind, what are some other, similar watches you would recommend I consider with the following guidelines?

    • No Divers as I don't care for the chunky bezel
    • Prefer leather or rubber strap
    • Simple dial please, no chronos. No date is OK.
    • Sapphire Crystal
    • $600 or less

This has a lume dial and sapphire for 400$:

That looks sweet. What's the word on Aristo's quality and customer service?

    Can't vouch for either personally.
Gnomon is a WUS sponsor and very reputable though.

Take a look at Glycine while you're there too. I've always liked the look of their watches. Have one, a good deal for what you get.

That Aristo which Tragic displayed is almost a flieger style watch. You could check out Stowa or Laco for really nice flieger style watches. You could also check out Hamilton Khaki automatics for a style even closer to that Luminox ...

Aristo has pretty decent quality from all accounts, they use mostly ETA movements (a couple of NOS Anton Schild movements, too) for most of their watches ... they are a German company.

    Hamilton Khaki auto:

    Laco:

    Stowa:

There are seperate Laco and Stowa forums on WUS, so you can ask around in there and find out more about those brands. They sell watches directly through their respective websites. The three I have mentioned are very good in terms of quality and excellent value for what you pay.
    Collection:
A few of this and some of the other ...

I'm pretty sure Ball watches don't come in under $600. The watch doesn't have to have a tritium lume. I just like the look of the Luminox 1837 is all.

We all know taste in watch style is subjective. Anyway, the Hamilton line doesn't do it for me.

I like a few in the Aristo line though. Seems like a good value. Of course the Luminox is probably a pretty good value at $260 or so. :)
