    Recommend a vintage dress watch

    So here is the criteria:

Any make, model, year, movement, or price Case needs to be at least 40mm. From searching I have only found pieces in the 32mm to 38mm range. I love many of the styles from Jlc, Hamilton, tissot but realistically do not see myself wearing anything under 40mm. Any recommendations would greatly be appreciated

vintage dress and 40mm doesn't exactly go hand in hand. You'd have better luck finding a recased vintage pocket watch (Frankenwatch), although those might be more around the 48-50mm range and don't really look vintage anymore.

Found this thread when googling "vintage 40mm dress watch"

If you are thinking of watches from the 1960's and prior as vintage then I don't think you will find a dress watch at that size. There were a few sports watches like divers and the Enicar Sherpa models that hit 40mm. Back then dress watches were generally thin, simple and 36mm to 30mm diameter.

Agreed. You aren't going to find a vintage 40mm dress watch other than a frankenwatch.

However, it should be noted that you might be surprised at how large the right 35-37mm vintage dress watch might look on your wrist. The key is finding those designs with very thin bezels. They always look larger than they are. Here's a sampling of my vintage dress watches. They range from 32mm (the Elgin) to 38mm (the Copernicus). They all wear large because they are essentially all dial.

The purpose is to UNOBRUSIVELY tell time. Not scream "I AM A COOL/EXPENSIVE/EXOTIC WATCH. MY OWNER IS SUPER COOL/SUPER RICH/ SUPER STUDLY".
    Here, understated is actually more.
Longines, Omega, Handwound Rolex all good choices.

I also like Hamiltons - they made many "name models". Don't recall a Michael but maybe. Or a middle name might work.

Hamilton and Longines dress watches from the '50s and '60s are often stunning, but don't overlook Elgin and Bulova... lots of value for the money.
