Recommendation needed for my first GMT watch (under US$10k)

    Hi everyone

I'm in the market for my first GMT watch, my budget is under US$10k. Atm, I'm seriously considering the GMT Master II, but I don't feel like paying above MSRP, and perhaps it might also get refreshed in at Baselword this year. I've also been surprising drawn to the JLC Reverso Tribute Moon for the past month or two (found one on Chrono24 for just about $10k).

I know that both watches are very different, but based on my work and daily wear, either sports or dress watch would work. What will you guys do if you were in my position? All suggestions and opinions are welcome!:D

    Thanks!

Another option is the Mühle Seebataillon GMT. The brand flies under the radar somewhat, but you'd be hard pressed to find a better watch for under US$3K:

GMT shopping with a decent budget? That’d be just the excuse I needed to get a Rolex Exp II.

I would get the BLNR. You shouldn't be paying above MSRP. ADs that do that are not worth buying from in my opinion.

I would get the polar explorer only because I don’t like polished centre links and I think the white dial and orange gmt hand is a great feature

I'd suggest considering a watch with a second 12 hour hand instead of a 24 hour GMT hand. I find them much easier to read and I love that you can hide the second timezone when you don't need it. You could pick up a Jaeger Master Control Hometime for less than $10k. Dressier but super functional. In the past they've made sportier versions as well.

do you have an opinion on:

    1. if the local time should be reflected by the "normal" hour hand or the GMT hand?
    2. if you want quickset for the hour?
    3. if said quickset should be on the "normal" hour hand or the GMT hand?

as i also consider a GMT watch, i have settled on:

    1. normal
    2. yes
    3. normal

some of the watches on my shortlist are:

    1. Rolex GMT Master II
    2. Rolex Polar Explorer II
    3. Alpina Alpiner 4 ICE GMT
    4. Montblanc Dual Time

if all this is important to you, note that the ETA 2893-2 movement, used in many GMT watches, offers quickset on the GMT hand, not the "normal" hour hand.
