    Recommendations for a graduation watch

So my brother is graduating from college in a couple weeks and I was thinking about getting him a watch. Now, he’s not a watch enthusiast but my mom told me he was looking at some fossils a while back and was thinking about getting one. I’d like to spend no more than $200 on the watch. What would you recommend? For context he’s kind of a minimalist. Very casual style. I was thinking a seiko 5, SKX, or orient bambino. Any other ideas?

I would go with SKX....a solid diver and will last a long time.

Sounds like a nice practical and sentimental present to get him. I think the Seiko 5 is fine, but believe its automatic?

If hes not really a watch guy he might not like having to reset it all the time, if he lets it wind down bc he doesnt wear it for a while. And the service cost is realistically $100+ on a mechanical.

Maybe consider a quartz movement. Batteries can go for 5+ years and be changed quick and easy. Citizen and Seiko make some robust good looking ones. I think a black face goes well with any occasion.

Thanks to the Seiko modding community "servicing" an automatic Seiko 5 means buying a replacement movement on eBay and googling how to swap it out. You end up with the same case, dial, and hands, only now your watch has hacking and is hand windable. And if you're feeling froggy you can replace the mineral glass crystal with a sapphire one at the same time.

OP, get him the Seiko, but not a diver. Get him a dress watch, and tell him that, now that he has his degree, he needs something to wear TO THE JOB INTERVIEW.

Or a different watch, depending on his major. If he's Business/Accounting then a dress watch. Engineering, a G Shock. And if he's a Communications major then get him a hair net & a Wendy's name tag.

If he does not like automatic watches, maybe Timex can be a good idea

For that price I'd get him a Bluetooth Smartwatch of some sort. That would be ...pretty ..pretty cool. :^)
