    Repair cost?

Any ideas what this will cost to repair? It’s my friends. He has an attachment to it, and will fix it if it’s not insane.

He said something about realizing the crown was broken after already being in the water.

    It’s a valijoux 7750.

What can he expect to pay to have it fixed?

Service with new crown, 500 to 700 USD.

There are people with far more expertise than I have but the water damage would scare me more than a broken crown (not considering the other mechanical damage that might have happened when it broke). My GO Senator Chronograph had water/rust damage that cost me almost $2k to fix at Wempe. How long ago did the water get into the watch?

Case back needs to come off right away -- the longer the water is in there the more costly it will be to repair. If your friend is lucky, perhaps just the o-ring will need to be replaced. If not, he may want to consider ending his attachment

Depending on the nature of his attachment, if it's a standard 7750 with no modification, it may be easiest to just swap in a donor movement than to try to fix a water-damaged movement.

He's better leave the watch in the drawer, repairing that movement costs like $400 or more. The winning solution is to buy another watch to wear and keep the old watch in a safe place.

    Re: Repair cost?

For those playing along at home, that's a limited edition and would be hard to replace for the ~$500 it would cost to repair or do a movement swap. That's before you put a value on sentimental attachments.

Dry it out ASAP and get estimates.

Why ask us? We have no way of knowing how damaged it is, and even if we did we'd have no way of knowing what your local watchmakers will charge. Ask a watchmaker.

I did. There are watch makers on this site. It’s not my watch. He asked me what I thought it would cost, so I asked others that might now.

    Re: Repair cost?

I'd consign it to the wastebin.
    Just too pricey to restore.
If repairprice exceeds 25% of worth?
    Fuzzy math!!
