    Reputation wise, best value brands?

So I found myself thinking about the brands which have the best reputation per $/£?

Ones that sprang to mind were Montblanc, Nomos, Tudor and Seiko.

What do you think? What are the most cost effective brands which any collector (rich or poor) would respect?

When it comes to out and out value for money then Seiko are pretty hard to beat.

Three of the very best reputations in terms of used price vs new price: Rolex, Patek and AP.

The first one would be Seiko; the second one would be Seiko; and the third would be Casio (G-Shock).

Re: Reputation wise, best value brands?

It's all pretty subjective. You may consider Seiko a great value for what it costs but "value" often includes more than low price. Take a company like Rolex whose watches are relatively expensive, but they are well built, last forever and have great resale value.

So person has to consider more than just initial cost into a "value" equation.

My Rolex Seadweller that I bought used in 2004 is worth pretty much the same was what I paid for it.

Can you say that about a Seiko or other lower price brands?

In fact there is a way to own watches in this crazy hobby where you don't really waste any money. Stop buying lower price watches and spend more on used higher end ones, and you will still have access to that money. I own perhaps 10 higher end watches that I bought used from crazies like myself that own a bunch of watches that rarely get more than 1 week every two months wear. They are all pretty mint watches.

I could sell everyone of them for what I paid for them. So obviously I paid around 3-4 thousand each for them but thats what they'll sell for.

When starting out in this hobby I too, bought Hamiltons and B&M etc new, but they were worth very little when I sold them. Now I rarely buy new.

Citizen makes some very nice value priced watches (majority being eco-drive), the fit and finish of frequently is superior to Seiko's entry autos ..

for non quartz snobs citizen certainly should be included in the value segment.
