Rolex Datejust v Explorer - which to get?

I am keen to buy a Rolex and am considering between buying a 36mm blue roman dial smooth bezel Datejust 116200 on an oyster bracelet or an Explorer 1 and am finding it hard to decide between them.

I wear suits to the office, so it needs to work for that environment, however I also want versatility for casual Fridays, date nights and smart casual wear.

I also intend to buy a Sub in the future, but for now the decision is between the DJ and the Explorer 1.

What would you pick? DJ or Explorer 1?

Personally I like the explorer 1 better, however I advice you to try both and see which one actually fits your wrist better, cannot go wrong with those two options

Explorer 1, more versatile IMO, but as above try both.

I know you don't want to hear this, wait a bit longer and get the Sub.

I would go for the DJ- it's size and style fits much more with a suit that the Explorer, which I find to be the more rugged, casual watch. (well, it was designed for "exploring" afterall!)

I personally would not pair a metal bracelet with a suit- I generally wear leather with suits but the DJ is the more versatile between the two. The smooth bezel should ensure it is not too dressy for casual settings. Also, depends a bit on how old you tned to "carry2 yourself.

Oh come on. Try both on and make a decision. It's not difficult!

Given the choice between a Sub, DJ and Explorer I, I would choose Explorer everytime. It is my ultimate watch, as I like the idea of having one to wear all the time. Just personal preference though. Clearly the DJ is a dressier option and the Sub is slightly sportier, but for my money the Explorer I toes the line beautifully.

Since you WILL get sub later, then my choice would be a DJ.

However, as all around versatility, Explorer is hard to beat. If you were NOT going to get Sub later, then explorer would be way to go.

I wear a suit 5 days a week and I see no problem at all with the Exploer I as an all-around watch.
