I just don't get why some very expensive watches have the rubber strap ala Hublot. If I'm spending 5-6K on a nice watch I want it on a bracelet or alligator. I can see that they are very utilitarian and water resistant, but to me the rubber isn't as classy or dressy as the others. The rubber strap makes a good spare, but not a first choice imho. That's my take on rubber straps.

Just as confusing is how some of the high end watch makers ask $4-5-600.00 for a rubber strap. I have to agree with you, they have their place but on a 5k + watch? To each his own I guess?

I've silicone rubber on Rolex GMT ll and two Omega PO's. While these may or may not be deemed "high end", the rubber straps are compatible with the service these watches see. Bracelet would be scratched up, exoctic leather (alligator) would be ruined in short order.
I have dress watches that sport nice bracelets or straps.
Indeed, "to each his own".
Not my taste either, but there are certainly high end watches that are of a sporty design that look appropriate on a rubber strap, such as Chopards.

How much does a rubber (synthetic or Latex) strap cost to make, 50 cents, 1 $?

I don't mind rubber on hi end dive watches, but at least they should come on a bracelet with the rubber strap thrown in as an extra. No way in hell I'm paying over $100 for a rubber strap. I don't care what it has embossed on it. ~ David
I can see it one a REAL dive watch like the PO. The rest, like the 18K Bulgaris and Hublots? Well, I'm not into hip-hop or rap so I don't get it.
the rubber straps are the cheap alternative on those watches at $300 or so. The bracelets go for $1500 - $2500 in SS. I prefer the rubber on my AquaLung. Most comfortable watch I own.
