    Ruined my brand-new watch...

I just bought citeniK's Eco Drive Skyhawk and got the strap fixed up and the time set when we had that monster earthquake here in Japan. Fortunately, I'm over 100 miles from the epicenter, but it was still a 6.8 here and it hit me on the tenth floor of a building! It was wild enough to shake everything and knock over all of the bookshelves/free-standing objects.

My watch, though? Trashed. I was trying to help hold stuff up and it just got scratched to heck and back. My TV is pretty trashed, too.

Oh, well. How many people can say they ruined their watch in an earthquake... I'm just glad I'm okay.

Just seen video footage from a helicopter of the tsunami heading inland and obliterating everything in it's
    path: very scary!

A watch and TV are easily replaced; at least you're OK.

Definitely, I'm glad I don't live near the coast. I feel terrible for my friends in Sendai who not only have no power, but also have snow and worse earthquake effects to deal with.

Glad to hear you're ok. Remember, everything else is easily replaceable.
Embrace the scratches. Like wrinkles, they're evidence of a life well lived.

That blows. Glad you're alright though. Things can be replaced.

Oh man! I'm glad to hear that you are okay. Unless that watch no longer works or is scratched beyond any hope of time reading, I'd keep it as reminder of the lucky day you've had.

It's pretty unreadable, but definitely a lucky reminder... I suppose I could always get the crystal replaced somehow.

Wow, glad to hear you're okay. As mentioned, that's the important thing.

    ...

About your watch and TV, do you have homeowner's or renter's insurance? And do they cover earthquakes?

If not, maybe go back to the store you bought the watch from and explain to them what happened and they just might have some sympathy for you; the worst they can do is say "no".

No such luck! I'm a bit too poor for insurance right now since I'm still paying off college loans and never expected an earthquake like this in a hundred years. The watch itself was "only" 100 USD, I bought it from a forum member here and certainly don't expect a refund for Acts of God! Just having a good grouse here and trying to let off some stress. We've had aftershocks every 20 minutes or so and my body still feels like the ground is shaking. So do my hands!
