Is it safe to send watch via EMS?

I need to send a watch to Germany. I have checked with EMS and Fedex, both do not offer insurance for watches. EMS is cheaper option, also with tracking code. However the lady at the counter did not have confidence that the watch would arrive safely. She mentioned couple of cases EMS lost the watch shipments, which make me worry. Is Fedex better than EMS? Any 3rd party insurance (esp. in Singapore) that you could recommend? Thx

Depending on the value, I'm not sure I'd ship without insurance. I'm suprised FedEx doesn't offer insurance. I'd try UPS.

No insurance? That's odd. EMS should come with automatic $100 insurance. At least for the USPS.

In any case, Higuchi san and Kobayashi san both ship exclusively via EMS. I don't think they lose many watches.

EMS in general is more secure than registered and placed on a different tracking and handling scheme from other mail.

I don't think Fed-Ex is much better than EMS unless you're looking for next day air service.

I will be leery of shipping to a few countries via EMS though.

that's true, EMS offers only $100 insurance. Fedex about $300 for insurance, but not sure whether it includes watches/jewelry. Usually people buy 3rd party insurance for additional coverage. But I got no idea, who over this type of insurance

I will be interested to know about 3rd party insurers though. Please keep us updated on your findings.
