    scratches...do they add charater?

Hey everyone ...ive had my seiko bm for about two weeks now...and ive noticed some faint scratches on this beast of a watch. i try to polish it up with a micro fiber cloth once and a while to keep it looking new-ish....it got me thinking how do all of you look at scratches...badges of honor or cringe worthy horror. lets see those beaters

As long as they are not on the crystal or bezel!
    Lots of dive watches.

Believing that scratches add character, to me, is the only sane way I can enjoy my watches. I consciously try to keep my watches "safe" from scratches/dings while wearing them, but eventually I get them. It drives me insane for hours/days afterwards. I retrace my steps before the incident and think to myself "if only I was bit more careful" or "why did I have to wear my watch while doing that?!" I am convinced that the only way to totally avoid scratches/dings is to keep the watch tucked away in a box. But then, what is the purpose of buying it? For me, wearing a watch in my day-to-day life is the only way I can really enjoy it and justify the expense. I guess to summarize: can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.

I don't mind scratches, even on the bezel or crystal. I buy watches to use them, and I expect them to look like it.

However, I mostly wear divers or similar toolish watches. If I was to wear a polished gold dress watch I might be of another opinion regarding that particular watch, but your Black Monster should be just fine with some scratches.

The thing about scratches is that the first ones are always annoying. But as the number of scratches increase, the watch just gets character. Wabi, some call it.

I'm looking forward to seeing how my CWC Royal Navy will look in ten years or so!

I hate scratches, all the watches that I bought new are still in pristine condition (apart from the usual scuffs on the bracelet / deployant clasp), the only ones that have scratches are the ones that I bought pre-owned.

Intolerable. Pure misery no matter what the circumstance on ANY watch.

I dunno, do wrinkles add "character"?

A few bumps and bruises maybe, but at some point it just becomes a beat-up old watch...

They sort of do, but given the choice, I'd always take no scratches. Hence my liking of hard case materials - tungsten carbide, ceramics, etc.
I'm content with my watch collection
