Question Secondary market for boxes, tags and other details

Is there any purpose to selling items, such as these, other than to facilitate "questionable" sales practices?

    VRM:

I see similar items for sale and wonder.

Sometimes I just want a new box for the 2nd hand piece I bought that didn't come with it..not so sure what the need for the tags and other details though (blank warranty cards??)..

I can see legitimate reasons for people to want OEM boxes. But papers, cards and tags - definitely conjure an image of unsavory activities going on

I don't know what tag would be for.

That said, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on correct OEM box for my Panerai 165. (Of course I KNOW it is genuine, it came with service box and service paper and since then, I sent it in to Pam authorized service twice - for service and crystal/bezel replacement) For SOME reason, for Panerai, even brown box appear to add value to the watch though I am not planning to sell it any time soon so I am not in terrible hurry.

My boxes usually go in the bottom of the closet , with removed links, original straps/bracelets if swapped . The market for boxes, tags etc should be looked at with skepticism ...I remember seeing on E-Bay REPRODUCTION Rolex boxes, tags etc, the only reason one would purchase these would be to deceive a prospective buyer. We look at boxes/papers/tags in the For Sale section as establishing provenance or authenticity of a piece .. I don't know if the WUS forums have restrictions on these items being listed but they should IMHO be banned .

Agreed. I'd like to be able to find the correct box for my Omega Coaxial DeVille as I bought it second hand without one. Don't care about the tags, but a manual would be nice, too. Just for my own enjoyment.

Yes, I hear you re: boxes, for sure. It's the tags and other "original purchase" paraphernalia that struck me. Reproduction boxes and items, that's serious red flags.
