It is fairly common on Small Seconds. 2 of mine are like that (of 4, so 50% of a small sample).

Also not uncommon for Chrono Small Seconds

I have only one Center Seconds without a balance. I't my grandfather's Longines from the late 1940's. Never been bothered by seconds balance as much as it's fragility.

It's the center seconds that gets me. I'm fine with Chrono and sub second# not having them. I like flared ones ala ball and corum for my center seconds. :)

Never gave it a moment's (or second's) thought. The question, "does it bother you?" assumes that the counterbalanced hand is the standard, the one without, the exception, but I don't have that in my "watch collectors" rule book, so I really don't care.

that needle-y hand on the Rado is sharp, counter-balanced or not

For me it is not a black or white consideration. I have to take into account multiple things. Watch style for example-diver with chunky lumed seconds hand needs a counter balance, dress watch with slender needle seconds hand could get away without it or might look odd with it.

Case by case basis. Excuse the pun.

How about a counter balance plus?
