    Seeing watches you want in the wild

    I’ve had my eye on a 36mm Explorer for a while but have been indecisive (would likely sell my Sub if I got one, and I really don’t want to sell my Sub). I rarely see these in the wild and finally saw one on the subway yesterday. For some reason I was blown away by how great it looked in the real world, which is strange as the watch is so understated and isn’t something the necessarily jumps out at you. Out in the world the watch has a mature and classic look that seems to work perfectly to my eye, and it made me going from sort of wanting one to really wanting one.

    This has never really happened before- yeah I’ve seen watches that I liked, and that I also wanted to get, but I’ve never had a random sighting make me really want a watch much more before.

    Curious if seeing watches in the wild has made someone want more even more.

    Hopefully the guy on the subway didn’t think I was too much of a weirdo when I was casually trying to check out his watch (-;

    Seeing watches you want in the wild

    I had it with an Omega AT a while ago. I rushed to an AD the next weekend but on my wrist it did nothing for me.

    It was a money saving yet very disappointing experience.

    Your crush sounds like it has more substance though.

    Seeing a Steinhart in the wild really made me want to get another Sub to replace my dearly departed 5513; does that count?

    It's worse seeing a watch you didn't really want. Happened to me with a Speedmaster; didn't have much interest saw it and ended up buying one

    The explorer 36mm is also on the top of my list from a little while now, and I just happen to see one and try it on last week, I fell in love even more then before!

    Oh man the 114270.... What a watch but I already blew my watch budget this year.

    To answer your question, yes. It's only happened twice, but every time I see a Breguet on someone's wrist my heart skips a beat.

    Yeah— that’s a danger too. I certainly don’t need the distraction of putting new watches on the ‘to buy’ list. Trying to simplify my life!

    I bought one of the last of the 36mm Explorers new. The lack of a date complication quickly killed it for me.

    Sub is a better watch all around. Only problem is that everyone has one, so it seems like a "me too watch" even though it probably isn't in your case.

    It IS the Stealth Rolex though, that much is true.

    Problem is the old cliche about the grass being greener on the other side seems to be true. I know if I sold the Sub and got an Explorer I’d be lusting after the Sub and kicking myself for selling. I suppose keeping both is technically an option, but I’m trying to generally move away from chasing too many ‘luxury’ goods, and also to be a one watch guy. Hanging out on this forum doesn’t help with any of those goal (-;

    But d***, the Explorer sure is a beautiful watch!
