Is the Seiko SARG007 the ultimate traditional automatic field watch?

Even though this issue was being discussed on another thread, I was advised to start a new thread with this spinoff, so here it goes.

The other thread was a head to head reader's choice contest putting the Seiko SARG007 against the Hamilton Khaki Field. It seems that while the Hamilton Khaki Field line is well respected, the overwhelming majority selected the Seiko SARG007 as the reader's choice. Now that the Seiko has emerged the winner in that contest, is there any other traditional automatic field watch that someone making this choice should consider? Let's raise the stakes and put the Seiko SARG007 against a candidate at more than twice the price. Open for consideration are now field auto watches up to $1,000. Is it still the SARG007, or do we have any other better choices, and why?

    Well, apparently not, lol

Lets give this a bump 3 years later to see if anything has changed perhaps.

I prefer the Hamilton Khaki field. It's more versatile. Plus i can't stand useless complications like a compass or tachymeter.

In the under $1k used category, these German fields completely obliterate the Seiko and Hamilton imo.

If non-metal bracelet is okay the Damasko DA36, DA37, or DA38. My personal preference out of these is the DA37:

It seems pricey for a mineral crystal equipped watch with 100m water resistance.

The "field watch" is such a conservative proposition that it really needs showcase the value you get in features vs price.

In my opinion Seiko's best field watch is the SARW019. Better looking, 4Hz, and a lumed power reserve indicator.

    Sir-Guy and Rakumi like this.

I will tell you whh the SARG007 could never be my field watch of choice. What I like most in a field watch is having numeral indicators for my minutes, hours and military time. If I dont have all three, it fails what I like about a field watch.
Somebody mentioned the Sarw019 and I agree that that one is an amazing watch. I also like having the day date feature as well. But for me the best is the Hamilton Khaki King because even though the SARW019 rivals it to me, the price of the Hamilton is a steal.
