Sell them all to buy a ring?

I recently proposed to my girlfriend but had no ring. I intended to sell off a few watches to buy one but couldn't wait a week plus to ask her. I was just to excited and sure we would be happy together. I put a watch on her finger and told her it would soon become a ring. She was pretty happy and said yes. The truth for me is I would sell off all of my watches to a put a ring on her finger. A basic ring is only a couple hundred bucks, but I want her to like her ring more than I like my watches.

So the question is, If you we're in a position where it was all of your watches or an inexpensive $150 ring what would you do.

All of your watches regardless of what they cost as a lot. $200-$200,000 makes no difference. They all go or your wife gets a sterling silver band with no stone.

Tough call, especially with this crowd. If I loved her that much than definitely.

Oh, and congratulations. Be sure to post a wrist...er...finger shot.

Surely there's an in-between. I wouldn't get rid of all of my watches but I can see myself getting rid of all save one. Fortunately when I proposed to my wife I was in a place where I didn't have to do that.

    EDIT: And congrats!

I don't have to but I also don't need to spend our savings. It's hard to part with but it's whatever.

This is a no-brainer... YES YES YES sell all my watches and take on a second job to do it right. First of all I have no business owning watches when I can't afford a proper ring for my life partner... the woman who I will take on the war that is life with... the bearer of my children. She gets taken care of first... period.

If I had done things in that order then yes. As it happens I did not so it wasn't an issue for me.

Funny though - I am itching to buy a new watch but just dropped a fair few quid on some jewellery for the Mrs. I figured it was time she had a treat, so she came first with a little "watch pot" fund I had built up in the last three months.

    The balance:

Selling watches is both practical to pay for the ring and shows a sacrifice on your side for the relationship.

Don't get suckered by the "guidelines" the wedding industry puts out. 3 mo salary is INSANE.

The real sacrifice in relationships comes from swallowing your pride and giving of your time generously.

I hope your proposal goes great.

Ideally, if not realistically, you are married but once.
Get a ring that indicates that sentiment.

Love isn't about a ring! But you should show her you care, sell at least SOME of the watches!
