    Servicing my OMEGA SMP QUARTZ

So after five long years of straight overseas work with short breaks, I'm finally coming home stateside permanently. About halfway through, I bought my Omega SMP preloved for about 1100 usd. Its been with me through quite alot since then and looks it. Because of the red dot just below the caseback, I know its never been serviced. The lume is pretty much dead (bought it that way), so the dial and hands needs replacing too. A certain trusted non Omega servicing center quoted me almost 600 bucks. Isn't that a bit steep? Any other options?

It basically depends on where you are located. If it's only the skeleton's hands lack of lume i would personally consider having them re-lumed by someone like Motor City watch works or the people at International Watch works.

Tell them to change the battery and you'll be ready to go.

Its the numerals as well. So I need a new dial. Not to mention that the case and bracelet aren't in the best of shape. So that's why I'm looking for service centers. Is $600 too high or normal?

I'd say that's probably about right because a basic service from Omega starts at $600, so since you need more than the basics that's not too bad.

What is there really to service? New battery, new dial and hands and a case & bracelet polish? I would look into polishing it yourself and see what it costs to send it off to have the dial and hands re-lumed. It might not save you much but it's work a try right?

You will get the best reluming job from Omega but you will pay for that quality. Your description makes me think the watch is well worn. If that is the case you may want to consider whether it makes sense to make just that component new again. I'm assuming the watch uses tritium paint since the glow died. You will probably get superluminova with it's relatively short glow time as a replacement. Unless you really need the glow consider passing on lume renewal.

$600 is not too bad considering the new dial and hands. I would get a quote from an Omega service center just for comparison.
