Thumbs Down Shill Bidding on eBay : Timeline_One

    Hi everyone,

I am newly registered here and did so to get your thoughts on this matter as I am truly concerned and disturbed by it.

I have been watching the auctions and sales of (Jorge) George Anday who sells on eBay under Timeline_One. I noticed the same 3 "buyers" kept bidding on his watches raising the prices to what I presume is what he would like to sell it for and when they win the auctions (which is often the case) he pretty much re-lists the items immediately.

I have reported this to eBay but he still has auctions going on and other active items. Now, he is selling very expensive watches and if I am correct, taking people for a lot of money over market.

I have compiled this list after spending a few hours on research.

What are your thoughts on this? If you see what I am seeing, how can we report it? I buy watches often both on and off eBay and this is simply disgusting.

Re: Shill Bidding on eBay : Timeline_One

from what you described it appears as shilling but I'm not surprised that ebay hasn't done anything. If you suspect shilling, move to the next auction especially with the evidence you've collected.

Shill bidding on ebay in the watch dept is rampant. Sellers consistently "sell" their same watches over and over JUST so they can have a high reference price in the completed auctions. They're trying to artificially alter the market price.

    It's disgusting. And terribly common.

Just bid what you would be happy to pay and leave it at that. If you win, great; if the shiller bidder wins, that's great too because the seller will have to pay the 10% final value fee.

This is why I'll drive 5 hours and pay a few hundred extra dollars to walk into an authorized dealer.

Re: Shill Bidding on eBay : Timeline_One

Unfortunately shill bidding is all too common on Ebay. Once I spent several nights tracking and reviewing bidding for three large watch sellers. It became apparent they were one entity because the same bidders bid those sites over and over. The seller was obviously using shills to avoid Ebay reserve fees. Other small time sellers give some lame excuse and close the auction if they don't like the bidding. If you don't mind the greasy sensation one gets when dealing with people like that just bid what you think is a fair price and you may get the watch. Just wash your hands afterward.

It's common unfortunately and not much you can do besides report it and hope Ebay does something. I never get in bidding wars on ebay. I decide what I'm willing to pay for an item and bid that amount. If I lose, regardless of to who or how, that's fine because it exceeded my max. If I won, well then I'm happy because I got an item I want for what I consider to be a fair price.

seller wouldn't have to pay the final value fee if they send a cancellation request to that shill bidder
