Sinn 203 ST or Guinand 40.50-4

My 6 month search for my first significant watch has really evolved and I think has come down to two. The Sinn 203 ST is the watch that I keep coming back to. I love that it is an elegant chrono but yet a very functional tool watch. $2,020 from Watchbuys on black leather strap:

However, I have found Guinand (there is something about Helmut Sinn's watches that speaks to me). The 40.50-4 with the bezel removed I think would be stunning. It would have a very clean face and the movement through the display case-back is something else (see ahkeelt's review https://forums.watchuseek.com/f8/guin...es-753096.html). It would be about $500 less than the Sinn. Essentially this dial:

    With this case:

    What do you think?

Hi. I have only two chronographs and they happen to be one of each as pictured. I think Guinand is one of the best kept secrets in WISdom. Similar to Sinn quality but easier on the wallet. However the Sinn 203 is one of my favourites and I'd be inclined to go for that, purely on aesthetics, if the extra $ was no object. In any case, if you decide on Guinand I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Sinn 203 ST or Guinand 40.50-4

Thanks, I really appreciate the input from someone who owns one of each (those are beauties, I'm jealous). The watch is actually going to be a late anniversary gift from my wife. I think I'll go for the Sinn with the fall-back position being the Guinand.

I find the Sinn to be a much better looking watch, and you can't go wrong with a Sinn.

If you intend to keep the watch for good... get the Guinand, and use the money you saved to build up funds for other watches.
However, if you're not holding it for good/long, SINN could be your best bet, as there's always some demand for SINN watches in the market. You can flip it fast.

I beg to differ. If its gonna be a watch the OP plans to keep then he should definitely go with the best quality he can afford.

And since we're talking tool watches here, no one beats Sinn.

The choice is actually up to you... Should you feel/see that Sinn is the one that give you the best impression, go with your heart.
Personally, i'm more of a VFM person, hence my vote will goes to Guinand with budget friendly price tag, naturally.
Anyway... in the end, both are designed(?) by Sinn.

Very true Ed. The Sinn is the one that after all these months I keep coming back to so I think that is the one that I will go with (or rather suggest to my wife that she go with).
