    So i just got a Swiss Legend automatic today... and i need help!

    I bought a swiss legend automatic (18 jewel swiss movement) from ewatches a few days ago...

    it arrived today in the mail and i was pretty excited...

    ....until i left it in the winder for 2 hours and realized it gained +3 mins

    Im pretty pissed now but this is the first automatic watch i've purchased... Is this a normal 'hickup' or should i press for an exchange tomorrow?

    Thanks for the help, guys!

    Also, im new to these forums so... hi =]

    Hey Artie, maybe your watch is simply magnetized, this happens sometimes in the mail. If it is then it may gain minutes one day and loose the next. this is a simple and cheap fix at your local (capable) jeweller. Or I believe someone in the pst mentioned holding the watch up to a tube tv for a few minutes.
    Cheers.

    Thanks for the reply...

    also i noticed the watch does not wind that easily... i just took it out of the winder and it stopped running about 30 seconds after i held it... i gave it a little arm movement for it to start going again and it stopped after a minute or so again... that back plate just doesnt seem to spin around that easily and needs a forced movement...

    so now i put it back in the winder and its not even running...

    is this caused by the same issue?

    If magnetization is the problem, your watch must be really REALLY magnetized.
    i'm no expert but i feel you've either bought a very poor quality watch (the number of jewels has nothing to do with quality), or something is seriously wrong. If you think it's worth it, i'd suggest taking in for servicing. If it's me, i'd return it.

    Artie, a Winder will maintain a charge, but it will do nothing to 'increase' the charge of an automatic movement.
    If you placed the watch directly into the winder after lightly shaking it, its possible that once it was removed from the winder, there was nothing to maintain the minimal charge, and it stopped.

    a little arm movement to get it going again wont facilitate the necessary charge to keep it going for hours and hours.

    Also, watches tend to run more accurate as they 'break in' a full wind (from experience) helps the watch maintain better accuracy from the start.

    Hope this helps

    Ozy, thanks for the help.

    I left the watch to run in the winder last night for 6.5 hours while sleeping. It gained 17 minutes. Even if it will run more accurately after a break in period, 2+ minute gain every hour is excessive.

    I think I'm going to return it. Although I do really like the watch so maybe I'll just exchange it for a 'working' one..

    You could try holding it face up (in contact) against the screen (cathode ray TV or CRT monitor) and hit the "degauss" button while you do that. If that doesn't change things, the watch isn't magnetized. Your only option then might be to return the watch ...

    Here's the lowdown. Swiss Legend is neither swiss nor legendary. I'd return the watch and wait for the right deal on a reputable brand.

    When you say it's not Swiss, you mean what exactly?
    My watch is Swiss made. The strap is made in USA (don't think that's what you meant). Swiss Legend is made by SWI, which I thought was a reputable watch brand...

    From Wikipedia:

    A watch is considered Swiss according to Swiss law if:

    - its movement is Swiss and,
    - its movement is cased up in Switzerland and;
    - the manufacturer carries out the final inspection in Switzerland

    A watch movement is considered Swiss if:

    - the movement has been assembled in Switzerland and,
    - the movement has been inspected by the manufacturer in Switzerland and;
    - the components of Swiss manufacture account for at least 50 percent of the total value, without taking into account the cost of assembly.

    If a watch movement is intended for export and will not be cased-up in Switzerland, but it otherwise meets the criteria to be considered a Swiss movement, the watch may say "Swiss Movement" but it may not say Swiss Made on the watch case or dial.

    Swiss Legend watches are not "Swiss Made," though they may have "Swiss Movements" in them.
