    Something like the Shanghai Peace...

New job, new suits, and of course a couple of watches to match. I've been looking for a brown strapped, silver or white face watch to wear when the occasion allows. Right now, I have a Hamilton Intra-Matic on black leather, and an Eterna Kontiki (back and forth between bracelet/strap) for off time. I ordered a Shanghai Peace reissue from some shady site awhile back and I've heard nothing regarding shipping. Emails go unanswered. I'll give it another week and then deal with PayPal.

In the mean time, any suggestions for something similar? I like the silver dial/case and gold hands/indices. Any go-to brown strap work appropriate watches you all recommend? I prefer 40mm or below and my budget is under $500.

Here's the Beijing Peace reissue.. (img link pulled from Google Img search; if someone wants credit, by all means, let me know.)

You might have a look at the Beijing Beihai. A beautiful handwinding watch at 38mm and within budget.

Orient Bambino III bauhaus. You get enough leftover for a $390 brown alligator strap.

Agree kinda, but not the III. OP would be well served by a Bambino I, however:

Awesome, thanks. I would love to have a hand cranker in rotation and that's nearly perfect. There are a few Bambino endorsements as well. I've never given it much thought, but I'll take a closer look.

Sorry I have to take back my recommendation as the Bambino doesn't handwind. But still a beauty:

Interesting - I've lately been craving smaller (36-39mm) dress watches and Chinese and Japanese makers have both been putting out some great choices.
If you like gold indices\hands on a silver case - Orient Star Classic WZ0271EL is a great choice ($355 from Seiya Japan)
Or save some $ and go w Orient Bambino I or II (not a fan of III so - loses some of it's charm to me) at just around $125

From China - the watches w SB18 movement can be found with great looks at at around $500. Beijing Beihai is stunning for the price.
Seagull WuYi 51 is quite appealing and not expensive

Since you mentioned both, how do Beijing watches compare to Sea Gull? I know nothing about Chinese watches but I like the looks of the Beijings.

I don't own Beijing Beihai or the Seagull (do own Orient Star and bough several Bambinos as gifts) - but have handled both in person.
Beijing was a much better watch, but is also higher priced. Seagull had unnecessary lume dots (out of place for dress watch), although there are different versions and some have no lume. Seagull did have a very nice sunburst dial - similar to my Orient star classic. Seagull uses ST2130 movement - ETA 2824 clone, solid but ultimatelly uninspired.
Beijing Beihai had a much nice finish to it, with a nice no-date dial, but what I liked the most was a beautiful SB18 movement - hand wound and quite attractive through display case back. Beihai 50th anniversary was LE, but used or NOS ones can be found.
