Start Up - Ferdinand & David Travelmaster - Any opinions?

Start up Ferdinand & David have a GMT watch that was recently released to production. It is a very elegant design in a 42mm case. Any owners out there with experience with this timepiece? What do you think?

Decent looking I don't own one but I do own a similar watch with the same movement, I've had it about a year & a few months, no issues so far, quartz Ronda 515.24H priced about right but I wouldn't pay retail. Also the movement is in a lot of other similar watches, check out longislandwatch.com, search gmt's and/or dual time watches. Hope that helps.

A 26mm Ronda quartz 515.24 with -10/ +20 sec/month in a 42mm case isn‘t something I would be overly exited about. The dial layout is something I‘ve seen a hundred times. The seconds hand should be a tad shorter, rhe GMT hand should reach to the rehaut (should be a tad longer though). I’d prefer a strap with 22/20mm rather than 22/18. A 18mm buckle is just out of proportion with regard to a 42mm case. The diamond crown is a typical flieger attribute but the upside down triangle at 12 would be a no go then.

Imho there‘s room for improvement. Nevertheless, all in all the watch looks nice and priced at €309 it will sell and find friends. It is just not calling my name.

This is pretty much the standard business model now for new watch companies. Some blurbs about the "designers", gushy prose about the "uniqueness" of the watch, etc. etc. In reality, it's a couple of entrepreneurs who possess some marketing skills. The Ronda 515.24H movement is a long established, one jewel movement that is available as Swiss made or Swiss parts. The latter being produced across the big pond and selling on the open market to you or I for less than $12 new. In quantity, it would sell for much less. The case , crown, dial, and leather straps are all off the shelf items that can be purchased specifically in lots of 100 units or less. All told, I estimate less than $60 in parts cost. The rest is for assembly, marketing and oh yeah, huge profits. Their dealer network consists of 4 stores in their home city of Hamburg.
It's a reasonable package being done to death by similar "entrepreneurs" all over the world. I can see nothing worth $347 when converted from the Euro price though. If it appeals to you, buy it. Because it's being marketed by a couple of guys from Germany featuring German calfskin leather doesn't add one penny in value to me.

    Thanks Slm643,
The Harding teimepiece looks interesting. Their website is no longer active, too bad.

    Thanks Mike,
Have you seen a better implementation using that Rondo movement? I'm interested in researching other similar GMT timepieces.

It looks so.....ordinary. Kind of like they missed the boat, might have worked ten years ago, but too many other options out there to be worth much consideration in this day and age. Nice, looking, but Moderator Mike, above, pretty much called it.

A lot, but I don‘t like quartz/quartz GMT so I have no recommendations though.
    Kind regards
