Starting a Video Review Playlist on the 'Tube..

I've never done video reviews of anything, except for one or two for the unusual swiss army knives I've had.

Since WIS-hood a couple of months back, lots of watches have been going through my hands. Some of them stay, most of them find new homes. I figure it would be great if I could do a short 1-minute review of all of the different models that I encountered.

Here is the first one, for the Omega SMP 2552.80

My first thought was "1 minute is not going to be enough", so next one will likely be 2 minutes long, or until I start noticing some fat on the review. Maybe some jazz music in the background as well. Need to get some good lighting and something better than a point-and-shoot camera as well.

    Wish me luck!

Nice watch. Don't you usually have to talk to review something though?

Yes, but once I realized I was capturing the sound of the watch ticking I wanted to go to in the other direction. Make it completely silent so you can hear the watch detentes, the winding, the bezel, and the ticking. Next time I'll turn off the A/C so the sound of the watch is even clearer

It's not so much a review as it is an advertisement, it appears.

Agreed. I think "review" is a misnomer in this case.

OP, my suggestion would be to talk about build quality, fit and finish, accuracy of movement, etc. It would help fit the "review" title a little a better, I think.

Slow down your transitions, less is more when it comes to transition. Use larger fonts, that are always centered, this will allow your viewers more time to read and it will give the video a more professional appearance . Less hands, more watch. If you plan to use verbiage in future video, be sure to write down everything you want to say and in the order you want to say it. Nothing will make me turn off a video faster than someone fumbling around for words. You can memorize most parts, but a cheat sheet is easily hidden out of the cameras view. Practice off camera before shooting. Good luck !

Thanks for the great advice, very much appreciated

Most of the feedback is about the lack of actual commentary about the watch and the transitions. I think this is a factor of the 1 minute time limit, which in retrospect was too short. I'll try 2 minutes for the next one and lets see what happens. I'm still debating whether to put in music or spoken words, but the recorded sound of the watch itself is very intriguing and helps with conveying the tactile experience.

I also need a manicure before recording ;)

Complete Youtube noob but trying to improve!

    cannot agree with you.
often, many reviewers start to babble about something I just don't care. How he got the watch, how long did it take for him to the delivery, his personal opinions on just about everything but the watch.
