STP in a supposedly Sellita Watch

    Hello all,

I finally learned by lesson about Jomashop but, more importantly, I discovered an issue with Mathey-Tissot advertising. I purchased a 42mm Mathey-Tissot Rolly Vintage (H901ATLN) from Jomashop to use as a cheaper alternative to some of my more valuable watches. It is advertised on both Jomashop and the M-T website itself as featuring the Sellita SW200 (I love this movement).

HOWEVER, when I received the watch, I inspected the movement and discovered that it was branded "STP 1-11." I'm not too familiar with this movement but I don't have any major issues with it other than that the watch was described as having the Sellita.

I called Jomashop and, as expected, was told that I was wrong or that just a part of the movement was STP (very absurd). In short, "because Mathey-Tissot's website says they use Sellita, they most certainly use Sellita." How insulting. Especially because I was sitting there looking at an STP 1-11.

Anyway, what do you all think? Have you heard of this before? Do other M-T owners have one with the STP? I included pictures below so you didn't think I was crazy.

If you like the watch, keep it. The STP movement is on par with the Sellita. Much ado about nothing at this price range.

Both the Sellita SW-200 and STP1-11 are clones of the ETA-2824.

    Keep it.

I have 3 Zodiacs and a Magrette with STP movements and they are on a par with both Sellita and ETA.

I'm not sure how Jomashop could be held responsible for this issue. Are they supposed to open every caseback and verify the movement against a manufacturer provided spec sheet? As for Mathey-Tissot, I wouldn't expect much. After all, this is a brand that offers a 24 hour bezel on a three hand watch.

HAHA! Maybe that's the real lesson here.

Thank you all for the comments. I agree, I think the difference between the two movements is so negligible that I'll keep it. Still a bit concerning that watches are being sent out with different movements.

I’d return it. Not because of the movement—I’d just return it.

How did it get so late so soon?

STP in a supposedly Sellita Watch

That’s odd that a Swatch group brand would use an STP movement. Or is this brand different from Tissot?
