    Tag Huer alternative

I've had my eye on the TAG Heuer Carrera Automatic Brown Chronograph Tachymeter Watch CV2013.BA0794 for a quite a while.

With a new kid, and maybe another on the way, I'm now reluctant to send this sort of money on yet another watch.

Can anyone recommend a watch that looks similar, but hopefully costs around $400-500?

    Thanks!

Welcome. If I only had $400-$500 to spend on a chronograph I would be looking at quartz models. Something like a Citizen AT4008. Or add to the budget a little and check out Hamilton’s range of mechanicals.

I don't know of anything that is very close to that design, which is quite distinctive to TAG. I'd second the Citizen and Seiko quartz recommendation. They have some nice quartz chronographs that are more avant garde in design and might give you a similar feel without being copies.
Omega Speedmaster Professional (311.30.42.30.01.005) * Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra >15,000 Gauss (231.10.42.21.01.002)
Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso Grande Taille (270.84.10) * TAG Heuer Aquaracer 500M ceramic (WAK2110) * Poljot OKEAH Chronograph

I was just about to post something similar. In fact I did a search too, but it's actually a pretty unique to tag design. I'd go with a Seiko most likely or try picking up a used tag Quartz chrono if anything. Good luck

Thanks everyone for the replies. I was looking at Seikos...There are so many to choose from!

I'm add Citizen to the list as well.

If you're going quartz check out the Certina DS-2 as well, though you might have to go grey market to get one within budget (Jomashop etc).

There's a Fossil which is very close -- danged near homage-y, I'd say. Black, not brown, though.

Hmm. They also had one with a dial even closer to the Carrera's, black with a silver ring around just the 6:00 subdial. I wonder if it got discontinued.

[edit] Ah! I knew I uploaded a screenshot some time ago:

It's like a homage to a Seiko SAEH007 (funny, so is the movement a-ha heh hhhuh)

I can think of a few quartz chronos with a similar colour scheme but I wouldn't recommend getting one. A quartz chrono isn't anywhere near as satisfying as an auto one (IMO of course), best to just put it on the back burner till you're ready to splash the cash

Good suggestion Sam! The Edifices definitely have a Tag vibe, hadn't remembered that.
