Try the Longines Conquest Classic Chrono. It just came out and it's fantastic. You may be able to get one new under 2.5K. Try Topper Jewelers.

    Designated Hitter?

Edit: *LW tells me that probably means "dear husband."
I'd go for Longines over Tag as well. If he'd be interested in a diver style watch, the Longines Legend Diver is pretty versatile, as it dresses up well. They also make some beautiful designs in dress watch and chronos. Look at the Master Complications chronograph which you can get within budget.

Longines Legend Diver. A incredibly versatile watch, with a vintage inspired design and history, that can be worn from beach to boardroom. It fits nicely in your budget and is better than any Tag I could recommend close to your budget.

The correct answer for WUS public forums is that you should get a pre-owned Speedmaster.

In the real world, I would say try to find out what watches he has been looking at, paying special attention to the make and more importantly, the style.
The Legend mentioned is a nice watch but that is irrelevant if he doesn't like that classic style of watch.

All the talk of brand x being better than brand y is pointless if he likes a watch made by brand y.
Buy a watch he likes, not what a bunch of internet nobodies likes.

If he wants a TAG then get him one - which one exactly I do not know.

I just love the Longines range, particularly the Master watches so I,m bound to say go for a Longines. I just know that if LW bought me a watch I wouldn't be overly concerned if it were a Longines or a TAG.
