    Taming the dragon within

We have all had our fare number of purchases in this journey of watch aficionados or enthusiasts ( politically correct terms for what we really are watch freaks hahah). Personally, I started with a Submariner (16613), then I discovered Seiko, Hamilton, but I always had a crush for Tag Heuer.

So as a true WUSer I began with the SKXsí, then moved on Hamilton (nice watches), and then began the hunt for the Tags. 7 Tags later and a multitude of other purchases and one begins to get a perspective. By this time youíve spent a couple thousands buying and selling.

Then, I wanted to get a true beater but in the spirit of the Submariner in the sub 1K category which options are plentiful. Love the SKX dial it draws me, love the Tag Heuer WAN 2111, got a Davosa Ternos 40 but I hated the ceramic bezel insert

and then I got a Ginault Ocean Rover and I fell out of love the seconds hand (couldnít find an adequate replacement)

and then I checked out the Steinhart but the longer case threw me off and finally I found the Squale 1545 series

And I fell in love, head over heals. I scooped a new Maxi dial and picked up a preowned Heritage version which really drove it in (Cupidís arrow).

So I finally feel like Iím good here with this brand and I no longer have the desire to continue to hunt for the next watch. Iím good here. So has anyone found their magic watch yet, that elixir that seems to tame the dragon within?

Similar to you, I started with different brands (a lot of Orients) and went through a few before I (almost) settled. Unlike you I bought a Tag Carrera cal 5 and ended up reselling it for a watch that was less expensive, though I still have a Tag 2000 classic that was the only watch I wore for 12 years. A brand that did it for me was Eterna. Can't say I've completely tamed the dragon because I just sold an Alpina and Oris to fund purchase of a Ball that caught my eye. Still waiting on delivery of that one but I am pretty happy with the seven I now have including the three Eternas. At least the dragon has settled down quite a bit, if not completely tamed.

I seem to have a lot of trouble with the “ooo, that’s nice” monster and so the dragon never even gets a bit tired let alone tame.

so long as I'm active on WUS and IG and listening to podcasts, I don't think there's anyway to tame that dragon.

Yup,it wasn't a particularly rare watch (around 1000 pcs were made back in 2010/2011) but this watch has slowed down my hunt considerably

This looks great and not too much bigger than the 1545 series. One day Iíll scoop up a Squale GMT. I saw a white dial version that looks darn nice as well.
