    Techne Goshawk / Miyota 8217

I saw on the website that the Miyota 8217 in the Techne Goshawk 411.XX (411.12 for me) has a yearly accuracy of -1hr 15min to +2hr 30min. That seems ridiculous - could be up to +24 seconds per day!. Is this correct, or am I missing something?

I'm sure that's correct. That's not an unusual rated range for an automatic.

I don't really know too much about watches yet, but I was under the assumption that mechanical watches would tend to be more accurate.

If most mechanical watches are this inaccurate why are they so expensive? This particular watch is almost 400.

More accurate than a quartz battery-powered watch? Definitely not. Mechanical watches are generally less accurate, more expensive, and easier to damage than quartz movements. Why we still buy mechanical watches would be a very lengthy answer...

A couple years later... I'm starting to understand. Probably my favorite possession, the Techne Goshawk.

Yup still have and love that watch. Wear it pretty much daily. Every now and then I find myself looking at the watch going "damn I love this thing".
