Picture Thanksgiving Day Food and Watch Pairings

I know the WUS community is a pretty worldly group, but just in case I should explain that Thanksgiving is a day in the US where friends and family get together and thank their maker that they aren’t fans of the American football Dallas Cowboys. I’m a slow cook with a spotty track record (there’s a reason why you’ll find no pictures of the duck here), but my wife keeps letting me take cracks at the elaborate menus I plan then sort of execute. As the dishes came out, it dawned on me that watches might make great garnishes. Excuse the mess and the unfinished kitchen - for the most part these were live action shots.

Second course: Herb-Poached Shrimp with Cocktail Sauce shares the plate with a 1966 Bulova Accutron Spaceview (for some reason I associate shirmp cocktails with the mid 60s):

Soup's on! Roasted Cream of Carrot Soup and a Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale that's crowned with a Doxa SUB 1200T Searambler. With all the orange here DOXA was the obvious choice - even if I was too chicken to actually buy a Professional:

I don't have a Citizen Chronomaster, but if I did, this is where it would have been. In a nod to WUS, I present the beverage I finished the night with and the best beer I know, Trappistes Rochefort 10:

Hm. I never have associated my watches with food, but now I'm hungry and want to go stare at some watches.

Ha! Not even close. Sometimes things come out awfully good, other times – not so much. I really did set the duck on fire, plus after being on my feet from 8 AM to 10 PM I was useless the next day. I think chefs need more stamina than that!

Let me paraphrase Ralph Kramden here and say "Droll Janne, verrry droll"

Most pairings are just simple color associations, though I think the Kobold does look a little like a sausage. Others were just assumptions I made. For instance it seemed to me that people who used pocket watches for railroad and marine purposes probably at a lot of biscuits. Mostly I’m just trying to find new ways to photograph watches. Like my cooking, the results are decidedly mixed

Thanks. I bet your dog is cool. Cool people tend to have cool pets.

Mixture of NYC Italian deli staples: Here you’re probably looking at Sopressata (mild and hot), Genoa Salami, Italian Dry Sausage, Pepperoni, and a Kobold that looks suspiciously like a Chronoswiss. I think the Pepperoni and Genoa Salami was Boar's Head. The rest was just stuff hanging above the counter.

Thanks for looking so far. As always I feel compelled to say that I don't see colors very well so I have to trust that auto-correction won't screw me up too badly.

Looks absolutely positive delicious! (We have a limited selection here.)

I think you are the only one that understood my little joke about the 4th July Thanksgiving!!

How did the Kobold smell after that?

I was a visitor at my parents' for Thanksgiving for the first time this year. I wore my Hamilton Scuba (on NATO) for the day, helping in the kitchen and what not, then for the actual dinner, I switched to my Monaco Vintage. No pictures, unfortunately.

How did it get so late so soon?
