Are there any Dive chronos that can be used underwater?

Seems like most dive chronos specifically states to not engage the chrono buttons underwater. Makes sense as it could impact the effectiveness of the WR.

That got me thinking if there are any dive chronos that have employed additional engineering to allow use of the chrono complication underwater. Considering the advancements in technology, I would think a functional underwater chrono would be a marketable feature along the lines of crazy depth ratings and HE escape valves.

The only brand that I know for sure says it is ok is Fortis. I'm pretty sure I've read one or two old threads about this very topic. Run a search. I'm sure there are many more brands than this.

I am not too sure whether the Tudor Heritage Chrono's buttons are okay to use underwater. They are screw down so possibly yes.

Re: Are there any Dive chronos that can be used underwater?

There are several that I know of.

The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms chronograph. I talked with their tech department about it when I owned one. Their senior tech guy said they don't like to advertise that it can be actuated at depth (300m) but it will hold. Three gaskets are used to make the pushers watertight.

The IWC Aquatimer is water resistant to 120m and IWC advertises that the pushers can be actuated at the rated depth. A truly great field watch.

Tag Heuer is a pioneer in chronograph water resistance. They have many models that can be actuated at depth. I briefly owned a 5 year old model that the pushers could be actuated at its rated depth of 500m. The FF, IWC and Tag do not have screw down collars as they are superfluous. But the lack of screw down collars on other watches is no guarantee that the pushers can be used underwater.

I also believe that many quartz chronographs can be actuated at depth or at least underwater. They are a different design from mechanical watches and are much easier to make water tight.

Screw down collars would likely indicate a "no" because they are there to protect the movement from water intrusion.

The Omega Seamaster Professional Chronographs have a pretty sophisticated pusher seal system which allow the chronograph to be operated at the full depth rating of the watch.

Read some where that Omega smp pro chrono 300 was the first. Likely others as well mentioned.

That's an odd statement for him to make, because Blancpain highlights in their marketing literature that the Fifty Fathoms is engineered so the pushers can be used under water.
