    Thoughts on Maurice Lacroix

    Hey all,

It seems to me that Maurice Lacroix watches are generally regarded as well made by WUSers, but they seem to be consistently featured on a daily deal site (not sure if it's cool to specify).

Does anyone know why they are so widely available at such discounts, and do you feel that this "cheapens" them in some way (no pun intended)?

    Thanks for the thoughts.

From what I've noticed, they seem well made and fit and finish is very nice. They seem like a good value because of the cost to quality ratio. I've read thay are well regarded in Europe, but haven't had a lot of exposure over here. I think the reason they are on the daily deal website is they are gray market pieces. I could be wrong since I'm not familiar with their marketing, but many manufactures do the gray market thing. It's a way to unload older models, and improve brand recognition.

I really like how this company has developed over the recent years. They make some incredible looking timepieces. I really haven't heard anything bad about them, and the company now has its own, true manufacture movement.

BTW, I think there was a thread with this same question asked fairly recently and had a decent number of responses to it. If you do a search, it should come up.

I think this is true, and I think it makes them more difficult to obtain here in the US. There is one particular ML piece for which I've been on a "call me if one of these comes in" list at one of the ML ADs here (who claim to be one of the bigger ML ADs in the US), and I haven't heard from them for about a year and a half!

I thoroughly enjoy my dress quartz Maurice Lacroix. While not a "high end automatic" its a delightful watch and has been my "Sunday" watch for many years now. VERY accurate and comfortable.

They probably did. I'll have to stop back in there one of these days. Of course, if I stop back in and tell them that I left my number a year and a half ago and never heard back, they'll start calling me every-other day. Maybe I won't mention the previous visit.

To the OP, take a look at these 2009 ML Basel releases (if you haven't seen them already). I doubt you'll think they are cheap! I'd LOVE to find one of these at a steep discount.

They have a great reputation and their Masterpiece Double Retrograde line is really cool.

    This is just awesome IMHO.
